Boston Hardcore Rippers RISK Share Primal New LP Forever

Sometimes, you just want to hear someone do down-the-middle hardcore music right. It's cool when people fuse hardcore with different genres, expanding the audience and the sonic language. It's cool when the music provides a vehicle of expression for larger-than-life characters. But sometimes, it's just as cool when a relatively anonymous hardcore band locks into a groove and sticks to the script, attacking all the expected genre tropes with passion and ferocity. That's what RISK do on their new album Forever.

RISK, from the Boston area, have been around for more than a decade. Up until today, though, they only released one album, 2022's Monologues Of Misery. Today, they follow that one with their new LP Forever. (They're calling it an LP, anyway, though a seven-song, 17-minute affair could probably fit comfortably on a 10" EP.) Forever is exactly what I wanted it to be. It's '90s-style burst of wild-eyed ferocity, metallic but not too metallic. The riffs are huge. The screams are electric. The Frank Sinatra samples are pretty fun. If you're in the right mood, this could be exactly what you need. Listen below.

Forever is out now on Triple B.
