Inspired by his Mexican roots, Deorro’s BOTAS & RAVE features major Latin artists such as 3BallMTY, Voces Del Rancho, and Montez De Durango.
At a time when Latin music continues to shape soundscapes worldwide, Mexican-American producer Erick Orrosquieta, better known as Deorro, returns to his roots with BOTAS & RAVE. Leaning fully into the influences on which he was raised, this album doubles as both a personal statement and a cultural celebration.
Known for festival-ready hits and vivacious electro house, Deorro shifts the focus inward on BOTAS & RAVE. He crafts a body of work that honors where he comes from while still driving his sound forward.
“I’ve reconnected with my roots,” shared the producer via Instagram about the project, “learning from different rhythms and sounds, and having the opportunity to relive my youth, and understand where I come from.”
At its core, BOTAS & RAVE is exactly what its title suggests: a combination of traditional Mexican and Latin sounds with the pulse of electronic music. Genres such as banda, norteño, cumbia, and regional rhythms are united with house, electro, and festival-driven music production. But this isn’t novelty. It’s intentional.
A major strength of the album lies in its collaborators. Deorro taps into a wide range of Latin artists, amplifying voices that carry cultural weight across the aforementioned genres. Tracks such as “EL TOMATE” with La Adictiva, “SAKUDELO” featuring Los Dutis, and “BOTAS CON BASS” alongside Montez de Durango and Chan hold cultural meaning. They blend electronic music with classic Latin genres such as duranguense, banda, and zapateado.
And the list doesn’t stop there. Alacranes Musical make an appearance on “ZAPATEADO ELECTRÓNICO,” 3BallMTY add their undeniable touch to “SONI23BALL,” and Voces Del Rancho carry “EL FEO.” Listeners can also hear the sounds of Texas’ very own RayBurger on “QUE RICO BOUNCE” and “TECHNO QUBRADITA,” produced by San Fernando Valley producer 8onthebeat.
Altogether, these songs culminate in a project that feels communal, reflecting the collaborative spirit embedded in Latin music traditions. For reference, groups such as Alacranes Musical, Montez de Durango, and La Adictiva have between seven and 17 members.
The timing of this album is also important. As conversations around representation and cultural ownership continue across the music industry and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continues to separate families, an album uniting two or more cultures is powerful. Rather than adapting to trends, Deorro’s doubling down on his identity. He’s making space for sounds that have long existed but haven’t always been front and center, especially in electronic dance music.
Deorro seamlessly bridges the dancefloor, rave culture, and the family functions that shaped his musical identity growing up in a Mexican household. As he said via Instagram, “I hope this album connects with everyone within and outside of our culture, as it is an invitation to our carne asada.”
BOTAS & RAVE encompasses the sounds of home, family, and culture, all while keeping one foot firmly on the dancefloor. In bringing those worlds together, Deorro doesn’t just experiment. He affirms that they’ve always belonged side by side.
