Breakaway Philadelphia Fell Short in Its Second Year

After a successful debut last year, Breakaway Philadelphia showed some signs of improvement while delivering a run-of-the-mill experience. On the weekend of September 11-12, Breakaway Philadelphia returned for a second edition in Chester, PA. A stone’s throw from the city, the traveling music festival took over the grounds around Subaru Park, offering a unique experience with views of the Delaware River and an industrial feel as ravers danced beside the Commodore Barry Bridge. For the 2026 edition, Breakaway Philadelphia brought in Tiësto and Marshmello as its marquee names. Additional artists included Sofi Tukker, Whethan, Layton Girodani, Starjunk 95, and an expansive lineup of local talent. I had high expectations going into this year’s festival as Breakaway had a year to prepare and implement various improvements. After its debut, Breakaway had also learned the venue and the demographic of their Philly-adjacent event, enabling them to dial things in for a better overall experience for patrons.
