The announcement follows Wedl's signing to ANTI- in March, and introduces her solo career having previously been in jazz quartet Dazey & the Scouts. The album's first single "Pretty Little Fantasy" is described by Wedl as "ode to the murkiness of your twenties, and how fantasizing can allow us to be more honest with ourselves", and is accompanied by a self-directed video.
Brennan Wedl was co-produced alongside Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee) and Brad Cook (Bon Iver, Hurray for the Riff Raff), who also play on the album, with additional instrumental contributions from Lindsey Jordan (Snail Mail), Colin Croom and Matt McCaughan. They recorded the tracks live as a band across ten days at Cook's studio in Durham, North Carolina, bringing together punk, grunge and Americana — which they describe as "grungetry".
After playing a run of sold-out shows this spring with Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman, Wedl is set to perform at Third Man Records' Blue Room in Nashville as part of Americanafest before hitting the road with Snail Mail and Soccer Mommy for their US East Coast run.
