‘Call Of Duty’ replica weapon causes security incident at airport

The United State’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has revealed that one Call Of Duty fan tried to take a replica Monkey Bomb onto a plane.

Monkey Bombs are a homemade explosive weapon that can be used in Call Of Duty Zombies to lure the undead before blowing them up. It’s made from a toy monkey and a few sticks of dynamite, and looks as cartoonish as you’d expect.

As part of the TSA’s Prohibited Items Week, the organisation took to social media to confirm that one fan tried to take a replica of the weapon onto a flight from Boston. “Our officers at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) had a ‘What the frag?!?’ moment when they discovered this replica explosive device in a passenger’s checked bag,” they wrote alongside pictures of the Call Of Duty Monkey Bomb-inspired controller stand.

”This monkey may rack up points in a game, but in real life, leave the gear for your loadout screen, not your baggage. Replica weapons and explosives, no matter how cool or collectible, aren’t allowed in either carry-on or checked baggage.”

However the post has angered a number of people. “So you know it’s a toy, but decided to take it anyway. So brave,” read one comment.

“So you have the capacity to know if it’s a weapon or not, but you chose not to care. It’s just gotta be a power trip at this point,” said another. “Oh no, someone brought a figurine on a plane. Thank god the TSA caught it,” added a third.

Other gamers were more understanding. “It’s crazy because, while I have this exact Monkey Bomb replica, there’s no chance in the UNIVERSE I’d ever attempt to take it to an airport! That shit is just common sense,” one fan wrote on X. “That TSA social media manager needs a raise; that post is elite,” said another.

Earlier this month, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that he wasn’t interested in a Call Of Duty movie despite the success of A Minecraft Movie. “The video game business is successful by itself. It doesn’t need this outlet,” he explained. “Let’s never turn this into something where every franchise has to have a game or a movie or a TV show.”

In other news, an ambitious game set in the world of Blade Runner has reportedly been scrapped by the creators of Until Dawn. Blade Runner: Time To Live would have been set after the events of 2049 and was due for release in 2027.
