Caroline Rose – “Yip Yip Yow”

1 hour ago 2

We named Caroline Rose an Artist To Watch way back in 2018, but their new single out today dates back even farther. Rose wrote the rowdy, poppy, psychobilly-infused "Yip Yip Yow" a decade ago and has been performing it in concert for years. Today they've finally put out a studio version in conjunction with the launch of their new record label SUCK Records.

"I was born on the 12th new crescent moon," Rose begins. "I was kicking and screaming/ A tipped cow in a minivan town." This version of the song was produced by John Congleton, who also handled the drum programming. Carla Azar played the live drums, and Death Cab's Zac Rae played bass. "I like to imagine this song being performed by four teenagers in a garage who are equally obsessed with The Gun Club and Britney Spears," Rose notes, adding the following:

I wrote "Yip Yip Yow" 10 years ago about feeling like I was born in the wrong time, in the wrong place and probably in the wrong body. 10 years later the only thing that's different is I finally have a recording of it I like. I think what's taken me so long to put it out is a fear of how simple and nonsensical it is, but now that's a lot of what I listen to. I love to hear all the freaks making two minute songs about rejecting cultures they never really fit into and building their own little worlds instead.
