Caught, based on Harlan Coben’s novel, is the latest adaptation of the best-selling author’s thrillers to join Netflix, and the twisty series has naturally left viewers with plenty of questions.

Set in Bariloche, in the Argentinian Patagonia, the six-part Spanish language series follows journalist Ema Garay (Soledad Villamil), who is known for exposing criminals who have managed to evade justice.

When Ema starts investigating the disappearance of 16-year-old Martina Schulz, she uncovers a web of deception tied to Leo Mercer (Alberto Ammann), who runs a foundation for teens, and Marcos Brown (Juan Minujín), a seemingly helpful ally.

By the finale, the truth unravels in dramatic fashion, but there are still some questions that linger. Here’s a quick run-through of the major talking points.

Who killed Martina in Caught?

Martina died accidentally after a confrontation with Armando, the son of Juliana, Leo’s housekeeper. When Martina confronted Armando about a video framing Leo, he pushed her away in a panic, causing her to fall down the stairs and die. Juliana, protecting her son, disposed of Martina’s body in the woods with Armando’s help, later planting her phone near Leo’s campsite to shift suspicion.

Is Leo alive at the end of Caught?

Leo did indeed survive. After being framed for Martina’s disappearance and attacked by Facundo, a grieving father misled by false accusations, Leo fled into hiding. The series ends with Ema and Facundo uncertain of his fate, but Facundo suggests that if Leo were alive, he’d return.

Who is the real culprit in Caught?

Marcos orchestrated the scheme to frame Leo. As the last heir of the Brown family, he aimed to reclaim the foundation’s land, which was set to revert to his family. He manipulated Martina into making a false video accusing Leo of misconduct, using Ema’s investigation to amplify the scandal and destroy the foundation. His plan backfired when Ema exposed him, recording his confession by the lake.

The show concludes with all the major threads – Martina’s fate, Leo’s survival, and Marcos’ scheme – resolved, though the possibility of Leo’s return is left open.
