Clipse’s NPR Tiny Desk Debut Proves They Haven’t Lost a Step: Watch

10 hours ago 3

The reunited Clipse made their NPR Tiny Desk Concert debut on Friday to put a cap on the rollout for the triumphant Let God Sort Em Out, their first album in over 15 years. Watch a replay below.

During the performance, the brothers Thornton — Malice (Gene) and Pusha T (Terrence) — exuded joy while playing a mix of deep cuts, new songs, and certified classics. Anchored by supremely talented drummer Daru Jones, their set kicked off with a booming rendition of “Virginia” from their classic 2002 debut Lord Willin’, before transitioning into a pair of standout tracks from 2006’s Hell Hath No Fury: “Keys Open Doors” and “Momma I’m Sorry.”

From there, Clipse dove into the menacing “Chains & Whips” and heartbreaking “Birds Don’t Sing” from Let God Sort Em Out. Closing out the performance on a high note, they delivered a crowd-pleasing rendition of their breakout hit, “Grindin’,” complete with hand-drumming on an office desk.

Be sure to read our review of Let God Sort Em Out, where features writer Kiana Fitzgerald praises Clipse for “demonstrating that they’re older, wiser, and more seasoned” while “setting a top-notch example of what it means to age gracefully into your craft.”

In August, Clipse will kick off their first US tour in 16 years, featuring stops in New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, and more. See the full schedule below, and grab your tickets here.
