The FIFA Club World Cub final was held in the US for the first time on Sunday, as the match between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain took place at East Rutherford, New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. The event also featured the tournament’s first-ever halftime show, with Doja Cat, J Balvin, Tems, and surprise guests Coldplay performing high in the stands.
The cadre of international performers played a 15-minute spectacular from up in the nosebleeds thanks to an innovative stage created by halftime presenters Global Citizen and partner Christ Martin of Coldplay. Putting the stage in the stands allowed the production to avoid damaging the field’s freshly planted grass, and limited the changeover timing issues faced by Shakira’s halftime performance at the 2024 Copa America final.
The event began with J Balvin performing “Mi gente” and “Reggaeton,” followed by Tems singing “Love Me JeJe.” Doja Cat then took the stage for a rendition of “Woman,” before giving way for a surprise performance from Coldplay, who teamed up with Emmanuel Kelly, for a soaring rendition of “A Sky Full of Stars.”
Global Citizen had hope to raise $100 million for global education access with the performance. “I’m proud to represent America on this unique stage that will bring people from all corners of the world together,” Doja Cat told Rolling Stone. “I’m also extremely grateful to continue to support global education efforts by raising funds for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.”
Australia’s Kelly, who was born with underdeveloped limbs due to prenatal exposure to chemical warfare in Iraq, told RS he was excited to represent differently-abled individuals on such a big stage: “Being part of the first-ever FIFA Club World Cup Final Halftime Show is more than a personal milestone — it’s a moment of visibility and hope for every differently-abled child who’s ever been told ‘no.'”
Prior to kickoff, Robbie Williams and Laura Pausini performed the Official FIFA Anthem “Desire.” Watch video of all the performances below. The show and tournament were something of a precursor to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the US, Canada, and Mexico, with the final also set to take place at MetLife.
