Converge are getting busy these days. The Boston metalcore institution has been going since 1990, and they have lost no steam, ever. In fact, I'm pretty sure that 2026 is officially their busiest year. They've already released two albums, Love Is Not Enough and Hum Of Hurt, and both of them absolutely kick fucking ass. Today, they announce the lineup for the second edition of Saddest Day, the hometown festival named after the seven-minute epic from their 1995 album Petitioning The Empty Sky.
Converge launched their Saddest Day fest at the Boston venue Roadrunner, and they headlined a handpicked festival that included Touché Amoré, Coalesce, and the Hope Conspiracy. This year, Converge have expanded Saddest Day to two days! But which day is sadder? We don't know! You'll have to buy a ticket to find out! Actually, this festival doesn't look sad at all. It looks extremely sick. This isn't exactly a surprise, but the cross-section of heavy music on display here is just staggering.
This year's Saddest Day comes to Roadrunner Dec. 12-13, and Converge will play both days. The poster promises "no overlapping sets," but more importantly, "no barrier," which means you can stagedive to your heart's content. The first day's lineup includes two as-yet-unannounced acts, one of whom will apparently headline, as well as Converge's Boston brothers Cave In, dark music traveler Emma Ruth Rundle, Matty Matheson's hardcore band Pig Pen, noise-punk veterans Deaf Club, and spooky Boston headbangers Final Gasp.
On night two, Converge will play a special set dedicated to the 25th anniversary of their classic album Jane Doe. That day, they'll be joined by noise-rock heroes Chat Pile, roaring rippers Baroness, transcendental black metal favorites Agriculture, screamo OGs Reversal Of Man, Tijuana crust monsters Habak, and spooky Boston headbangers Fuming Mouth. Looks fucking sick! You'll find all the details here.
