Cynthia Erivo is set to star in and produce an adaptation of author Adrian Tchaikovsky’s sci-fi action thriller Saturation Point at Universal. According to Variety, the Academy Award-nominated actress is producing the project via her Edith’s Daughter production company with Solome Williams; and famed director Michael Bay is co-producing with Brad Fuller via their Platinum Dunes banner’s first-look deal with Universal.
Saturation Point is the story of Dr. Jasmine Marks leading a search and rescue mission into a rainforest near the equator with a climate inhospitable to intelligent life called “The Zone.” The screenplay is adapted from Adrian Tchaikovsky’s book.
The film’s logline reads: “As she pushes further into the wilderness, Dr Marks discovers the Zone is far deadlier than initially believed and not all forms of intelligent life are necessarily human.”
Erivo’s company Edith’s Daughter inked a first-look deal with Universal in fall 2024, deeping the star’s relationship with the studio after Erivo starred as Elphaba in the blockbuster film adaptation of Wicked.
Erivo was nominated for Best Actress at the 97th Academy Awards for her performance in that Jon M. Chu-directed film. At the awards, alongside Wicked co-star Ariana Grande, Erivo performed “Defying Gravity,” with Grande stepping to the side to let Erivo hit her final note of the song. She also performed “Home” from the 1975 musical The Wiz.
She also just released her newest album. I Forgive You dropped on June 6. Erivo will be seen next in Wicked: For Good, which arrives in theaters on Nov. 21.
