David Fincher’s Se7en Receives 4K Ultra HD Release for 30th Anniversary

Three decades after audiences found out what exactly was inside the box, David Fincher‘s Se7en is set to receive an official 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release. Pre-orders are ongoing for the film for the anniversary rollout on January 7th. To celebrate the legacy of the 1995 release, Se7en will also be released in IMAX for the first time with a limited engagement at over 150 screens throughout the US.

Fincher’s second-ever feature film was a sleeper hit upon release and has remained in the conversation over the past three decades as a notable crime drama. The 4K Ultra HD release will contain a number of bonus features, including commentary from Fincher and the film’s stars Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt, half a dozen deleted scenes, and footage of proposed alternate endings. While studio heads were concerned about the violent and shocking nature of the ending, the finale ultimately became the factor that solidified Se7en as a staple of the genre.

30 years later, Se7en is remembered as one of the projects that solidified Fincher’s reputation as a visually strong and deeply stylistic force behind the camera. It also marked a turning point for Brad Pitt, who was working to establish himself as a true dramatic actor.
