“I’ve Seen the Willow Trees” is a song that celebrates the awe-inspiring beauty and transformative power of the natural world. It’s about my love of nature - the profound effect it has had on my life - and my need to share that magic with my children. To bring them to the sacred places, from my childhood and throughout my life, that shaped me and left a lasting impression, and to let them experience that magic too. My heart’s desire is to pass on that deep love of nature to my children and to show them the beauty of this world. “I’ve Seen the Willow Trees” is my love letter to the natural world and to my children.”
Speaking on going solo, Troy expands, “Fiercely loyal in my nature and a true band monogamist, I never felt compelled to make a solo record during the over-a-decade Deap Vally was actively making records and road-dogging it around the globe. But after having broken up over a year ago, I finally felt the calling, and had the words, the drive, and the courage to take the solo plunge. The music is better than I ever could have anticipated, and to get to record it in my home, with my husband, while my children slept soundly through the noise, was the icing on the cake. To carry everything I’ve learned with Deap Vally, and to get to take that wisdom, and rebirth myself as an artist—to reflect where I currently am in life now—has been profoundly rewarding, fiercely liberating, and a truly empowering experience. Art always finds a way.”
