The Hulu app as you know it will cease to exist to 2026, as Disney has announced that it will fully integrate the service into Disney+ by 2026.
Going forward, Hulu will exist solely as an entertainment tile within the Disney+ app akin to properties such as Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. The standalone app will be shut down.
The move is not unexpected, as Disney has been telegraphing the move since buying out Comcast’s one-third stake in Hulu to become the full owner of the platform. Hulu’s full content library has also been available on Disney+ since spring 2024.
“Today we are announcing a major step forward in strengthening our streaming offering by fully integrating Hulu into Disney+,” Disney CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston said in prepared remarks ahead of the company’s quarterly report on Wednesday (via Variety). “This will create an impressive package of entertainment, pairing the highest-caliber brands and franchises, great general entertainment, family programming, news and industry-leading live sports content in a single app.”
