Droogie Otis, the hip-hop duo featuring producer Madlib and rapper Your Old Droog, have a dropped a new track, “The Edge,” featuring Killer Mike. Listen to it below.
The jazzy, horn-blasted track is the second track from Droogie Otis’ forthcoming project scheduled for release in October. It follows the lead single “Everything Designer” featuring Boldy James, which dropped earlier this year.
Both Your Old Droog and Killer Mike deliver cool, razor-sharp lyrics over the track, creating a vibe that’s equal parts urgent and laid back. For his part, Your Old Droog added his verse in just 20 minutes.
“It’s an honor to spar on a record and be recognized as a peer,” Droogie enthused about rapping alongside Killer Mike on the track. “That beat is a big stage, and he was on the very shortlist of emcees I heard on it.”
“The Edge” also marks Madlib’s first production after his residence was devastated by the Altadena fires earlier this year, in which he and his family lost “their home, decades of music, and equipment.”
