EDM Identity’s Favorite Moments of 2024

3 days ago 14

This year, a lot happened in the scene, from festivals with insane production and stellar headliners to immersive art-themed events and pop-ups in fun places. Let’s look back at a few of our favorite moments of 2024!

Oh, what a year it has been! Ever since the pandemic, and maybe even before, each year seems so different. In one sense, we’re still feeling the impact of the pandemic as ticket prices rise and festivals fold. Thankfully, that’s only part of the story. Huge acts keep getting bigger, as John Summit keeps proving year after year, and the largest festivals keep growing into new markets with no signs of slowing down.

Our scene is evolving, and that’s always been true. Perhaps it just seems to be happening faster these days. Regardless, some things will never change. Great music and events still draw great crowds, events that offer more than just music continue to inspire the scene, and fans continue to be as creative and silly as ever.

With all this in mind, let’s see what the EDM Identity team was up to in 2024 and hear about their favorite moments of the year!

EDM Identity’s Favorite Moments of 2024

Wenzday+JSkolie

Jared – Finally Meeting Wenzday in Person

Early in the pandemic, I discovered Wenzday (real name, Taylor Chung) as my personal tastes were beginning to broaden beyond progressive and house. I was immediately hooked, and as live shows were coming back, I had the chance to interview her. Alas, her trip to NYC was not to be as someone else on the lineup got covid. The trip was canceled, so the interview was done over email.

In 2024, when she finally returned to NYC, I attended the show and finally met her. She was so gracious to spend time with me in person to make up for the previously missed opportunity. Let me tell you, Taylor is a fun-loving and silly human, making this such a memorable day on the dance floor!

Aneleyre Guillen

Anx – Seeing Brutalismus 3000 Live

My favorite moment was finally being able to see my favorite act, Brutalismus 3000, live. After unsuccessfully trying to catch them at Coachella, I really hoped they’d return. Thankfully, they announced their first-ever LA show, so I knew I had to go. Best night ever! Even though it was on a Monday and I had a 10-hour shift the next day.

Ashley – Exploring Mexico City During ABGT600

Hands down, my favorite moment from 2024 was exploring Mexico City and getting to celebrate ABGT600 there. It is such a beautiful and vibrant city. To see our favorite Anjuna artists there with good friends was so special.

Brooke Nelson

Brooke – On Stage Engagement in Denver

My favorite moment from 2024 was witnessing two of my best friends getting engaged in front of a packed-out Cervantes show. Tati was playing direct support for Super Future, and it was such a wholesome moment to share with not just her friends but also the crowd who was there to support her.

Chloe Nguyen

Chloe Nguyen – Inking My Love for REZZ

My favorite moment this year was the REZZ Rocks and the Hypnovizion Pop-Up! The Hypnovizion team and the Cult of Rezz fandom were so awesome, and it was so much fun getting to know the fanbase better. And I also got a tattoo at the Pop-Up! I also loved seeing the ODESZA The Last Goodbye Finale with my sister and my friends.

Cohavit Gil

Cohavit – Birthday Magic at Envision

There were so many magical moments in 2024! But one that comes to mind immediately is ASHEZ burning the whole place down at Luna Stage at Envision as it turned midnight on my birthday.

David Medina

David – Great People, Great Times

One of my favorite moments of the year was reuniting with my best friends for the first time after moving to Denver. We all went to Escape Halloween together, and even though things started super rocky (my best friend got his phone pick-pocketed in the first 30 minutes that we were there), we rebounded as a group and still had an amazing weekend. It truly showed me that being surrounded by great people and music is one of the best remedies in life.

Destinee – Having a Blast Covering EDC Las Vegas

I would have to say EDCLV 2024 has a special place in my heart, from conducting interviews with amazing artists to spending time with my favorite people on the team. It was truly the summer camp getaway I never had growing up with EDM sets. Thank you for all the memories EDMID.

Erik – Celebrating Survival in London

My favorite moment was catching Michael Bibi at his One Life London show. It felt like a celebration of him beating cancer rather than just another show. Since it’s his hometown, it was something super special.

Grant Gilmore

Grant – Celebrating EDM Identity Turning a Decade-Old

I feel like it’s sort of an easy dunk of an answer, but EDM Identity turning 10 this year is something special to me. The past decade has been a wild ride, to say the least, and it was nice to take some time and soak that all in. I had so much fun covering many festivals and shows this year, but some of my favorite moments included the production of our zine, The Fingerprint, having a dedicated press room at EDC Las Vegas, and finally meeting our Bass Editor, Abby, in person after all these years. I feel so blessed to have such an incredible team of passionate dance music lovers, and it’s safe to say that there’s more memories to be made in 2025!

Jackie – Returning to Coachella

My favorite memory of 2024 was dancing barefoot under the desert sun, reconnecting with the magic of Coachella after nearly a decade away. With my best friends by my side and music vibrating through the Polo Field, it felt like stepping back into a dream I’d been missing all these years.

Jaclyn Sersland

Jaclyn – A Special Night with WORSHIP in DC

My friends and I were brought up on stage for WORSHIP in Washington DC. The energy and vibes at that show were unmatched, the sets were top-tier, and it is truly the best show I’ve ever been to. Though drum and bass had been on the rise, it was the moment I realized that it had truly, finally made it to the US, and that it was here to stay.

Janice

Janice – Return of Portola

Seeing Portola return to San Francisco for another year and expand to new artists who left a lasting impression.

Justice

Janki – All Justice, All The Time

Experiencing Justice live four times in 2024—at Coachella, Portola, The Hollywood Bowl, and The Justice & Friends After Party—was a standout highlight of the year! Each performance demonstrated their exceptional mixing mastery and unparalleled ability to traverse their entire discography while seamlessly blending a wide spectrum of dance music genres. Every set felt distinct, reaffirming their legendary status as pioneers of live electronic music.

Josue Paredes with Rooler

Josue – Interviewing Rooler During His US Debut

My favorite moment of the year was interviewing Rooler before his US debut performance in San Diego. Selfishly, I gained a lot of knowledge just from sitting down and getting to pick the brains of a seasoned veteran in the industry. Additionally, all of my efforts to make this a memorable experience were acknowledged when he told me he wished all of his interviews were like mine. This was still a learning experience, but I’m confident my future interviews will be even better!

Kylie Eng

Kylie – My First EDC Las Vegas Experience

Attending my first EDC Las Vegas was something that I had dreamed of doing ever since I entered the rave scene in 2019. I was blown away by every aspect of the festival, and getting to see some of my all-time favorite artists up on stages of that size was life-changing.

Logan – First Visit To The White Isle

This past July, I finally had the opportunity to make it to Ibiza. Witnessing 11 sets in four days was a whirlwind of a lifetime, and I can not wait to go back. However, catching David Guetta and MORTEN go back-to-back during their Future Rave show at Hï Ibiza was the icing on the cake.

Madison Staggs

Madison – First Time Festival Camping

My favorite moment from 2024 was getting to experience Camp EDC with the EDM Identity family. It was the first time I had ever camped at a festival, and it was such an amazing experience. I can’t wait to return! Thanks for such great opportunities with the team!

Marissa

Marissa – Partying Sober

My favorite moment was experiencing my first festival sober in years. What seemed to be a daunting task, especially in Miami, ended up being the most magical and renewing weekend. I left feeling a newfound love for electronic music and reconnected to the scene after experiencing burnout.

Olivia von Hagen

Olivia – Unplugging in Nature With My Rave Family

My favorite moment from 2024 was attending my first camping festival with my rave family. We spent weeks prepping with spreadsheets and the fest ended up being so fun and worry-free because we were so prepared. It was such an amazing experience being unplugged with my favorite people, camping on a beautiful piece of land. We were the community center of the festival, and everyone came and chilled at our camp. It was such a wonderful experience.

Sheila – Experiencing Cultural Narratives in NYC

My favorite moment was attending the first-ever S2O festival in NYC. It was exciting to see how the festival brought a unique cultural narrative to life in such a playful and immersive way.

Tara Miller

Tara – Rave Family Trip to Red Rocks

My favorite moment of 2024 was going to Illenium at Red Rocks with my entire rave family. There was something very special about this show, and having all of my people there with me. The crowd had the best vibes, and Red Rocks never disappoints!

Zachary Lefevre

Zachary – Photographer Fantasies

There are many memories: from the photo pit at Odesza’s ‘The Last Goodbye’ finale in Berkeley to being front and center for Gesaffelstein at CRSSD Festival to Porter Robinson’s SMILE! :D tour at The Shell in San Diego. But my number one moment was meeting and capturing the magic of Le Youth’s set at Electric Forest at Tripolee; the energy was out of this world!
