Mix Tape is the new music-adjacent romantic drama from the BBC, but what songs feature on the ‘80s-inspired soundtrack? Find out below.
The four-episode miniseries arrived in full on the BBC iPlayer on Tuesday (July 15), and it tells the story of former couple Alison and Daniel – played by Teresa Palmer and Jim Sturgess – who reconnect over a shared memory of a song, despite now living on opposite sides of the world.
It is based on the 2020 novel of the same name by Jane Sanderson, with a screenplay adaptation from Jo Spain. A joint Irish and Australian production, it was first broadcast on the Aussie streaming service Binge last month.
Sue Deeks, head of BBC programme acquisition, has said: “Accompanied by an absolutely cracking ‘80s soundtrack, Mix Tape is an enjoyable blend of nostalgia, romance and heartbreak – it really is the perfect summer treat!”
Every song on the Mix Tape soundtrack
For a show revolving around characters that are defined by their love of music, it comes as no surprise that Mix Tape is bursting with choice cuts from the ‘80s indie and alternative scene.
The likes of Joy Division, New Order and The Cure rub shoulders with niche selections from The Comsat Angels, The Fall and Kitchens Of Distinction.
