READ MORE: ‘The Shards’ review: ‘American Psycho’ author’s stabby meta-memoir is an LA horror story Based on Bret Easton Ellis’ semi-autobiographical 2023 novel, the show is set in Los Angeles in 1981 and it centres on aspiring writer Bret (Igby Rigney), whose final year at an elite prep school is disrupted by the arrival of a mysterious new student Robert Mallory (Homer Gere). Robert’s appearance coincides with a series of killings by The Trawler, a serial killer targeting teenagers across the city. Kaia Gerber, Hayes Warner, Graham Campbell, Wes Bentley and Evan Rachel Wood also star, while Ryan Murphy serves as the series’ executive producer. The first two episodes of The Shards were released on FX in the US and on Disney+ in the UK on Thursday (August 6), with the rest of the 10-episode series to follow weekly.
