Fans react as Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s ‘Vultures 2’ fails to arrive

1 month ago 12

Fans of Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign have been expressing their disappointment after the pair’s ‘Vultures 2’ album failed to arrive today as promised.

The first instalment of Ye and Ty’s trilogy of collaborative records, ‘Vultures 1’, was released back in February following numerous delays. Two more volumes were scheduled to drop on March 8 and April 5, respectively.

Later, West reportedly floated the idea of making ‘Vultures 2’ and ‘3’ available exclusively to buy via his Yeezy website. The next month, the rapper claimed that the first sequel was “coming out May 3”.

According to Billboard, the Yeezy site displayed an update on Wednesday (July 31) that read: “ALL ORDERS FULFILLED VULTURES 2 COMING AUGUST 2ND.”

But the date was removed just hours later, and the message was changed to: “ALL ORDERS FULFILLED.” No new release date has been provided as of yet.

After ‘Vultures 2’ failed to materialise at midnight, fans took to social media to air their disappointment and frustration – mostly in meme form. Check out a selection of reactions here:

Speaking to Billboard in June, Ty explained that he and West had “got all the songs” for ‘Vultures 2’, but said they were deciding how to release it.

“Basically, it’s just like, ‘How can we get it there? How can we go bigger than the first album?'” he told the outlet. “Certain people will probably expect you to just do the same exact sound. But that sound’s already out.”

Two ‘Vultures’ listening events are currently due to take place in Korea and Taiwan on August 23 and 25, respectively. See the announcement posts below.

In April, it was reported that Takeoff is set to posthumously feature on ‘Vultures 2’. Per Rolling Stone, a source described the collaboration as a “highlight track” of the upcoming album.

West’s idea to potentially not share the ‘Vultures’ sequels on streaming platforms might be influenced by the controversial release of ‘Vultures 1’. The first album came out following multiple postponements, and was briefly pulled from Apple Music and iTunes after not being approved by its distributor.

Earlier this summer, West and Donna Summer‘s estate reached a settlement over the alleged “illegal” use of ‘I Feel Love’ on ‘Vultures 1’. Ozzy Osbourne also threatened legal action over an unauthorised Black Sabbath sample.

NME gave ‘Vultures 1’ a two-star review, saying the collection is “mired in misogyny” and “dogged by degrading lyrics and messy mixes”.

It added: “Such misogyny is hardly new in hip-hop – or either artists’ catalogues or the broader musical landscape in general – but that doesn’t make it any less detestable.”
