Fallout developer Bethesda has confirmed plans for the first official Fallout Day celebrations.
According to the lore of the series, October 23 2077 is when a series of nuclear bombs turned Earth into an inhospitable wasteland. For years, fans have celebrated the franchise on that date, but now Bethesda is getting in on the action as well.
Next Wednesday is the first official Fallout Day celebration. A video on social media gives fans a brief introduction to the “global phenomenon” and its 27-year history. “Every one of us has a game we call our own. The game in which we found friendship, escape, laughter, love or even hope. Fallout today stands as a multi-generational tapestry of lives changed, and memories made,” the video continued before inviting fans to a “global celebration”.

Events include giveaways and an in-game parade, while fans are encouraged to play their favourite game and share photos, memories and videos on social media. Bethesda will also be hosting a four-hour livestream at 8pm BST on their Twitch channel, where developers will be answering questions and fans can get a first-look at new content for Fallout 76.
The Fallout Day celebration will also launch a number of in-game events, including double XP, free items and the Spooky Scorched and Trick Or Treat experiences.

The celebrations are being held in partnership with the Fallout For Hope charity initiative. “When I started five years ago, I never imagined that we would be doing so much more than just charity streaming,” said founder Kenneth Vigue.
“It is an honour and privilege to help plan events like these and shine a spotlight on the insanely talented people in our fandom who don’t just play Fallout, but LIVE it.” The organisation is currently trying to raise $500k (£383k) for childhood cancer charity St Jude.
In other news, final Alan Wake 2 expansion The Lake House has finally got a release date. The “true survival horror experience” is also a crossover with the Control series.
