Flume Greets Fans with “Easy Goodbye,” Announces 10-Track Collaborative Album

Flume has re-enlisted former Palaces collaborator Emma Louise on his latest single and for a joint studio album, DUMB, due August 22.

If you know Flume, you know he thrives on collaboration. Never shy about returning to artists who match his aura, the GRAMMY-winning future bass pioneer has officially reunited with Emma Louise—last heard on early Palaces single “Hollow“—for a fresh independent release, “Easy Goodbye.” If that’s not enough, the track is a first taste of Flume and Louise’s impending collaborative album, DUMB, hitting digital shelves later this summer.

“Easy Goodbye” marks Flume’s second official offering of the calendar year, subsequent to his May-dispatched joint EP, We Live In A Society, alongside JPEGMAFIA. While his recent EP fringed on the hyper-experimental edge fans have come to know and love(?) thanks to 2019’s Hi This Is Flume mixtape, it seems his latest body of work with Emma Louise will fit the bill as the formally accepted fourth studio album represented in Flume’s eclectic repertoire dating back to his self-titled debut in 2012.

Developed in true 50/50 fashion out of a studio in New South Wales, where Flume and Louise both live, DUMB is scheduled for an independent release later this summer on Friday, August 22. According to Emma Louise, the title of the album is “loaded with weight” for her.

Growing up undiagnosed neurodivergent, I often felt dumb—struggling at school, forgetting things, silencing myself to fit in. In the studio, whenever we got stuck, Harley and I would laugh and say ‘make it dumb’ to stop overthinking. It worked every time. At first, naming the album DUMB felt irreverent and freeing, but later I realised how deeply it connected to my own fear of being seen as stupid and unworthy. This album is me reclaiming that word, letting go of shame, and promising myself I’ll never abandon my voice again.

An evident ode to making instinctive art, DUMB is poised to disrupt the house-dominant electronic music scene this summer. Because it’s an independent release, who knows how much or how little gear-head Harley Streten (Flume) will pull back on his glitchy tendencies come August. Whatever the case may be, I expect Emma Louise to carry a strong melodic plot line that will captivate a wide array of commercial music listeners.

Listen to DUMB‘s first single, “Easy Goodbye,” on Spotify or your preferred platform and pre-save the album ahead of its release on August 22.
