This week, BBC Radio 1 is announcing the runner-ups for their Sound Of 2026 list, with the winner to be announced on Friday (9 January). The full list of nominees for 2026 includes Alessi Rose, Chloe Qisha, Florence Road, Geese, Jim Legxacy, kwn, Royel Otis, Sasha Keable, Skye Newman, and sombr. The listed artists were selected by a panel of over 170 industry experts, including Elton John, Dua Lipa, JADE, Olivia Dean, YUNGBLUD, and Sam Smith.
Following an epic 2025 run with the release of their third album Getting Killed back in September, Geese have been revealed as the third runner-up, with Royal Otis announced as the fifth act on the shortlist yesterday.
Touching upon the buzz around the Brooklyn band, the longlist description reads: "In the last few months, it feels like Geese have suddenly become the band that everyone's talking about. The four-piece formed in Brooklyn, New York, after meeting at school, and have released three studio albums to date. The band's name comes from guitarist Emily Green's nickname, Goose. The lead vocalist is Cameron Winter, who released a solo album to huge critical acclaim, and the success of the band has grown in tandem with his. Their music is masterful, moving deftly between moods ranging from hardcore anger to pure joy, displaying the versatility of the band members' talents. Winter's remarkable vocals bring raw emotion and vulnerability to lyrics that often contain a lot of levity, and together it feels like a unique combination."
