“This song began as a bit of a devo (Australian for devastating) moment,” Kendrick explains. “Written mostly about my struggle to recover from postnatal anxiety, its lyrics reflect an unraveling and a quiet cry for help. But then my producer and friend, Duncan Mills, breathed new life into it, turning it into this unexpected upbeat banger. I love how it’s taken on a new energy—it’s a deeply sad song, but you wouldn’t know that unless you really dug into the lyrics.”
Twinkly Depression is a collection of “happy-sad” songs that blend heartbreak with breezy, nostalgic sonics. “I originally created a mood board with this name while planning a shoot,” Kendrick shares. “It struck me that it captured the feeling of the EP perfectly—heartbreaking at its core, but still hopeful and nostalgic.”
“When I began writing for this EP, I wasn’t in the best headspace, but I didn’t want the songs to reflect that. Instead, I wanted something that could lift me up and take me out of my own head,” she adds. “There’s a kind of happy melancholy woven through it. The songs explore both lighter moments, like falling in love, and heavier themes, such as postnatal anxiety and addiction.”
