gianna dives into emotional self-duality on downtempo “Hei Lover”

Rather than tiptoeing around concepts or cautiously testing the waters, gianna moves with a sense of creative certainty, already carving out the sounds of her vision that feels distinctly her own. There’s a sense of creative freedom running through the track, with gianna seemingly being open to experiment, to merge, to hybridise a trendy sound to make it her own. It is predominantly built around jungle-leaning breakbeat drums framing her ability to establish a slight club feel, behind a classic pop foundation.

Much of that writing instinct comes from a life shaped by a duality of cultures. Born and raised in Camden, her parents are from Kosovo, gianna became immersed in North West London’s vast constellation of subcultures and grew up constantly absorbing the sounds of the present. “The Albanian influence really comes from the gut, it feels almost like a subconscious inherited form of creativity that helps me write my melodies,” she says. While Albanian folk and 80s power ballads informed her storytelling, London otherwise expanded her sonic palette by exposing her to new textures, micro-scenes and ways of expressing melodies and emotion. “The Albanian side is the rhythm that lives under everything that surrounds me like this filter I see through.”

“Hei Lover” sits on this atmospheric borderland between pop and downtempo electronica, a place of mood where emotional temperate takes precedence over conventional pop formalities. gianna cites nostalgic influences from the likes of Dido and Everything But The Girl, who use ear candy textures as a deliberate, intimate way to frame their voices. This lineage of influence can be heard spread across “Hei Lover”, gianna's vocals sit just above the beat carrying both confession and command.

Lyrically, the track spirals inward becoming an exploration of inner division, a sort of conversation with the dual sides of one’s identity tugging in opposing directions. “I’m thinking about so many things at once, but one thing that I am exploring is this severed identity, whether that’s culturally, relationally, past and future.” Her writing balances introspection with a kind of emotional camouflage. “Writing lyrics allows you to be creative and experimental, and feel like I’m stylising those feelings in a way where I can disguise it how I want.”

Lines such as “and if you wanted / we’d be more than just what you say”, or “and I bet it hurts when you can only hear my words / cos you know theres nothing more that lies behind”, reveal a quiet tension between power and vulnerability. It’s a portrait of desire tangled with uncertainty, of a split between who she is and who she hopes to become.

Through layered production and lyrical subtlety, “Hei Lover” transforms that internal conflict into a hypnotic, danceable meditation on longing, identity, and emotional duality. With this single, gianna doesn’t just introduce herself, she forges a space that feels deeply personal, culturally textured, and sonically forward-leaning.
