Everyone’s favorite virtual band of primates, Gorillaz, have announced a sizable collaboration with Fortnite. The hit game will soon boast the Gorillaz band members as playable characters, add select Gorillaz songs to the “Festival” game mode, and host “Fortnite Festival IRL,” an immersive pop-up held in London’s Hackney Bridge Garden.
With Gorillaz officially claiming the title of “Fortnite Festival Headliners,” “DARE,” “Clint Eastwood,” and “On Melancholy Hill” are now set to come to Fortnite as playable Jam Tracks. Additionally, “DARE” has been added as a special emote, each band member will be playable as a new skin, and host of matching accessories will be available via the in-game marketplace. Elsewhere, “Fortnite Festival” also has a new look to coincide with the lore of Gorillaz.
“It’s an honour for all of you that I am finally to be immortalised in my own fiefdom. Watch out serfs, here I come,” Gorillaz’ fictional bassist Murdoc Niccals said in a statement.
The meeting of Gorillaz and Fortnite is also hitting the real world, with a special pop-up going down in London. As listed in the press release, the pop-up “merges the worlds of Gorillaz and Fortnite into an immersive activation filled with gaming stations, giveaways, live game streams, and DJ performances.” Notably, the pop-up coincides with Gorillaz’ previously announced run of anniversary shows at London’s Copper Box Arena, where they’ll perform various albums in their entirety at each concert. The announcement comes as Fortnite reaches its 10th season and follows other music-related integrations. Previously, the game has added skins of pop stars like Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter, as well as metal icons Metallica. It launched “Fortnite Festival,” a rhythm game mode (think Guitar Hero or Rock Band), back in 2023.
In other Gorillaz news (or non-news), mastermind Damon Albarn teased that a new Gorillaz album would be ready to go in 2025, though further details have yet to materialize.
