"Sold Out" is available exclusively on Bandcamp, and arrives after the Brown University shooting, which occurred on 13 December 2025. "We made this song last year in the wake of a school shooting. I was reminded of it this week as our hearts were broken yet again," Gracie Abram, Aaron Dessner, and Bon Iver share in a collaborative Instagram post. "It’s a sad one to share during the holidays, but the world is hurting and we shouldn’t look away."

With the aim of drawing attention to gun violence, "Sold Out" is released in support of the organisation Everytown for Gun Safety. Everytown was founded in 2013 when Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America came together to strategise solutions to the problem of gun violence in the United States. It now stands as the largest organisation advocating for gun violence prevention in the country, growing into a movement of nearly 11 million people — including survivors of gun violence, parents, mayors, and gun owners.
