A fan-led project has estimated that the Grand Theft Auto 6 map will be 2.7 times bigger than the huge world of its 2013 predecessor.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is due to arrive May 26, 2026 and is expected to have one of the biggest launches in video game history. Earlier this year, developers Rockstar delayed the game from its original 2025 release but shared an “unprecedented” amount of information about the long-awaited sequel, including characters, locations and story details.

One fan-led community project has used that info to build a version of the new Grand Theft Auto 6 map. According to GTA6 Mapping, the upcoming game will be set in a world that’s 2.7 times larger than that of GTA 5. “As fans of the game, the hype usually starts when the game is announced. Usually the mapping begins when we get the first trailers and screenshots of the game, and it’s worked this way since we were waiting for Vice City’s release,” explained one of GTA 6 Mapping’s members. “Since then, we’ve successfully mapped many of the games with each one getting more accurate.”

“I feel like Rockstar has this magic in their games that not many other developers can achieve. There’s this attention to detail. With Grand Theft Auto 6, we know we’ll get a world that will take years to appreciate, explore and fully understand. Mapping GTA is like going on vacation somewhere beautiful and memorising your favourite bits,” he continued.

Last month, a leak revealed Grand Theft Auto 6 could feature parodies of Whatsapp and Uber after a number of website domains were registered by Rockstar while other fans believe they’ve worked out who’ll be voicing new protagonists Lucia and Jason.

Since the info dump back in May, Rockstar hasn’t revealed any new details about Grand Theft Auto 6, leading some fans to speculate the game could be delayed again. However, former Rockstar employee Obbe Vermeij dismissed those rumours as “clout chasing” while Strauss Zelnick, the boss of Grand Theft Auto 6’s publisher Take Two, said he was sure the game wouldn’t be delayed again.

In other news Elon Musk has promised to release a “great” video game, created entirely with AI, by the end of 2026. “Really good” AI movies should be possible by 2027, he added.
