Hannah Stocking, Madison Pettis, and Yvonne Orji drop in with Kyle Meredith to talk about their new Netflix comedy The Wrong Paris, a rom-com that gleefully flips the reality dating show trope on its head. The film follows Miranda Cosgrove’s character as she signs up for what she thinks is a dating show set in Paris, France — only to find herself in Paris, Texas. While trying to get eliminated, she winds up catching real feelings, and chaos ensues. The cast members speak with Kyle about the show-within-a-show vibe, playing wild characters, and how real love might (or might not) survive the reality TV filter. Each actor brings a distinct version of mayhem to the screen. Pettis credits a heavy Southern accent for unlocking her character’s vibe: “There’s a ‘bless your heart’-ness to her. Like, the things she’s saying are so mean, but with that sweet little accent, you almost don’t notice.” Stocking, meanwhile, leaned into the absurdity with giddy confidence: “I don’t normally exude ovulation, but I love bomb a lot in real life. Maybe I stalk a little. Just Miller Lite-level stalking.” And Orji, who hosts actual reality shows in real life, brought a hopeful sincerity to her fictional host: “I always go in with full hearts and open eyes. But I’ve learned that reality shows always have some kind of built-in chaos… and that’s not how I live my life.”
Still, beneath the satire, there’s a bit of truth. “Some people really do go in wanting love,” Orji says. “And others just want their 15 minutes. That machine can make or break you.” Pettis adds that while the movie pokes fun, it also honors the sincerity behind people’s motives — sort of. “You can go stereotypical real fast,” she laughs. “But we worked hard to keep it grounded — even when riding mechanical bulls or saying the most ridiculous things.” And yes, she confirms, the mechanical bull riding was real. “My core still hasn’t recovered.”
