Last week, Hayley Williams premiered a new track, "Mirtazapine" via Nashville radio station WNXP. A day later, she performed the track with Bleachers at Newport Folk Festival. In an unexpected drop, which was teased by Good Dye Young – the haircare company Williams owns with Brian O'Connor – she released the 17 track album to accompany a brand new hair dye colour, Ego. Announcing the product, the company wrote: "Meet the shade that unlocks the soundtrack to your summer…Ego is everything you need for a new creative era".

(@m4rvelgirl) July 28, 2025Fans who bought the dye were given a code to access Hayley Williams' website, which then revealed a homepage designed to look like an '00s desktop, featuring 17 brand new solo songs. Including "Mirtazapine", the album features songs such as "True Believer", "Glum", "Whim", "Love Me Different", and "Discovery Channel", which interpolates the chorus of "The Bad Touch" by Bloodhound Gang. Originally released in September 1999, the track is taken from their third studio album, Hooray for Boobies.
Ego follows Hayley Williams' two solo albums, Petals For Armor, and Flowers For Vases (Descansos). Williams recently collaborated with Moses Sumney on "I Like It I Like It", as well as Turnstile & Blood Orange on "SEEIN’ STARS". She is also set to feature on Jay Som's forthcoming album, Belong, and David Byrne's first full-length release in seven years, Who Is the Sky?.
