Heart kicked off a new tour on Saturday (May 31st) at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, but were “devastated” when two of their prized instruments were stolen from the venue prior to the show.
According to a statement, Heart set up their gear at the venue a day before the concert took place, only to return and find out that a guitar and mandolin were both stolen.
A statement from the band read, “Members of the legendary rock band Heart were devastated to discover that two irreplaceable instruments were stolen from the venue, where gear had been set up the day prior to the show.”
The instruments include a “custom-built, one-of-a-kind purple sparkle baritone Telecaster with a hand-painted headstock, crafted specifically for [guitarist] Nancy Wilson” and a “vintage 1966 Gibson EM-50 mandolin” that multi-instrumentalist Paul Moak has played for over a quarter century.
Nancy herself added, “These instruments are more than just tools of our trade — they’re extensions of our musical souls. The baritone Tele was made uniquely for me, and Paul’s mandolin has been with him for decades. We’re heartbroken, and we’re asking for their safe return — no questions asked. Their value to us is immeasurable.”
The band is offering an unspecified reward for the return of both instruments, which are pictured in the Facebook post below. Any leads should be directed to Heart’s tour manager Tony Moon at tonymoon@me.com.
Meanwhile, the band still kicked off the tour on Saturday, and will continue with the “An Evening With Heart” outing through a June 28th gig in Hollywood, Florida. After that, Heart will embark on an August run with support from Todd Rundgren. Tickets for both tours are available here.
