Hayley Williams kicked off her latest solo tour, ‘The Hayley Williams Show’ last night (September 3), with a host of live debuts and a Nina Simone cover. She kicked off with the live debut of ‘Just a Lover’, from her 2021 solo album ‘FLOWERS for VASES / descansos.’ It would be one of eight live debuts of tracks from her previous releases, although the bulk of the setlist was devoted to songs from her latest LP, ‘Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party’, released last year. Album tracks ‘Mirtazapine,’ ‘Brotherly Hate,’ and ‘Parachute’ made up the three-song encore, while ‘Ice in My OJ,’ ‘Kill Me,’ ‘Glum,’ and more were performed in the main set. Williams also played a cover of Nina Simone’s classic ‘Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’, and played a snippet of Portishead’s ‘Wandering Star’ during the performance of ‘Simmer’.
