Our recurring feature series Track by Track sees artists guiding readers through each song on their new release. Today, folk supergroup I’m With Her discuss their second studio album, Wild and Clear and Blue.
Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan, and Sara Watkins go way back. Close friends and mutual admirers of each other’s work since they were teenagers, the singer-songwriters are now well into adulthood with families of their own. Through it all, their bond has remained intact and culminated in the release of Wild and Clear and Blue, their second full-length album as I’m With Her.
The 11 tracks that make up the trio’s latest offering were recorded between the Catskills and Rhinebeck in New York state. Produced by Bonny Light Horseman’s Josh Kaufman and mixed by D. James Goodwin, Wild and Clear and Blue is further proof of the alchemy that makes this supergroup an inimitable force unto itself.
“It feels like magic getting to do this together,” Jarosz tells Consequence about working with O’Donovan and Watkins on the new LP. “There’s a special bond embedded within these lyrics.”
Negotiating themes such as major life changes, grief, and the importance of family, each artist adds a unique touch and perspective to the project. Together, the three-piece delivers another breathtaking record that brings out the beauty of the world through the lens of the human experience and its many dimensions.
