Iron Maiden Don’t Want to Play in Front of Gwyneth Paltrow in a Yurt

UK metal legends Iron Maiden are among the biggest acts never to play England’s long-running Glastonbury Festival, and singer Bruce Dickinson would like to keep it that way.

This year’s Glastonbury fest is currently taking place with headliners Olivia Rodrigo, Rod Stewart, Muse, and The 1975. Meanwhile, Iron Maiden are headlining their own concert Saturday (June 28th) at London Stadium, a mere 167 miles away from Glastonbury fest.

When asked about performing a gig in England at the same time that Glastonbury fest is going on, Dickinson told The i Paper, “I always said I’d turn Glastonbury down if we were ever invited. I don’t want to go play in front of Gwyneth Paltrow and a perfume-infested yurt.”

The singer is referring to the celebrity-filled crowds that are common at festivals like Glastonbury and Coachella these days, insisting he rather play for the band’s true fans and keep Maiden’s ticket prices relatively reasonable.

“It’s not just about making money,” said Dickinson. “We want shitloads of people to come and see us. I’m amazed at the prices that some people are prepared to pay to see some legacy acts.”

Iron Maiden will wrap up their “Run for Your Lives” UK/European tour on August 2nd in Warsaw, Poland. After that, Dickinson will embark on his first North American solo tour in nearly 30 years beginning August 22nd in Anaheim, California (pick up tickets here).

Prior to launching the current tour, Iron Maiden’s manager issued an open letter asking fans to severely limit their use of phones on the outing, remarking, “The amount of phone use nowadays diminishes enjoyment, particularly for the band who are on stage looking out at rows of phones, but also for other concertgoers.”
