Heavy metal met the City of Steel when Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson sang the National Anthem at the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game on Sunday (September 14th).
The metal legend took to the field at Acrisure Stadium before the Steelers’ home game against the Seattle Seahawks. After being introduced, the Maiden singer got a warm response from the crowd, and then began singing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Dickinson started out a little rough on the opening lines, but then quickly recovered to belt the heck out of the song, with a powerful delivery of “And the rocket’s red glare” and going full Maiden on “O’er the land of the free,” holding the note on “free” for a good six seconds.
Unfortunately for the Steelers, Dickinson’s rendition of the National Anthem didn’t bring them luck, as they lost to the Seahawks by a score of 31-17.
The metal singer was in town for his show in Pittsburgh that night on his current North American solo tour in support of his latest album, The Mandrake Project. The outing runs through an October 5th show in Los Angeles, with tickets available here.
