Two down, five to go: j-hope of BTS is the latest member of the band to wrap up his military service. On October 17th, j-hope was discharged from the South Korean Army with the rank of Sergeant and was welcomed back into civilian life.

With his exit, j-hope joins Jin, the band’s eldest member, who completed his service in June 2024. RM, V, Jimin, and Jung Kook are expected to exit their service periods in June 2025. They’ll be followed shortly after by SUGA, who enlisted as a social service agent, a role that requires a longer period of work.

Jin was waiting on site in the Korean province of Gangwon to greet j-hope. The other members of the band were unable to join for the return, but, upon returning to Seoul, j-hope began a livestream to chat with fans who had been eagerly anticipating his discharge.

While j-hope is expected to hit the ground running working on new music and performances, Jin is also slated to release his first solo project, Happy, on November 15th. Here’s what we know about Jin’s album so far.

Prior to enlistment, j-hope became the first K-pop star to headline Lollapalooza with a set centered on his full-length solo project, Jack In the Box. During his enlistment period, he revealed a pre-recorded project, Hope on the Street.
