Jack White and Bill Murray Randomly Sat Next to Each Other at Cubs Game in Japan

Jack White and Bill Murray randomly found themselves seated next to each other during a game in Tokyo, Japan on March 18th.

As White recounted on Instagram, they both attended the first game of the Tokyo Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Adding to the coincidence, fellow Cubs superfan Eddie Vedder had just gifted White a vintage jersey before the game.

In the caption of a photo gallery, White gushed: “You know what it’s like when you go to see an MLB game between the Cubs and the Dodgers in Tokyo, Japan wearing a game worn Cubs jersey from the year you were born (’75) with your favorite number on it that Eddie Vedder gifted you before the game and you walk to your seat and realize that Bill Murray is by the randomness of the universe sitting next to you to watch that game. You know that feeling right?”

White was also joined at the game by his daughter, Scarlett, and his wife, Olivia Jean.

Unfortunately, White and Murray’s presence wasn’t enough for the Cubs to secure a win against last year’s World Series champions. They lost to the Dodgers 4-1 in the first game and have now started the 2025 regular season with a 0-2 record after a 6-3 loss earlier today.

Though White’s Japan trip was likely planned around watching the Cubs, he also played a pair of shows in Tokyo. One of those concerts even featured a surprise appearance from Vedder, during which they ripped through a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.”

The North American leg of White’s “No Name Tour” kicks off in early April, with a limited number of $20 student tickets available to purchase in person on the day of each show.
