Jason Isaacs’ co-stars have said he was “very excited” to shoot his much-discussed nude scene in the new season of The White Lotus.
In the fourth episode of season three, which aired on HBO in the US last Sunday (March 9), Isaacs’ Timothy Ratliff is under intense pressure as he learns he is facing a criminal investigation into his business practices back home. To cope, he starts to take his wife Victoria’s (Parker Posey) anti-anxiety medication.
In the memorable scene, Timothy is sitting in his robe with his wife, two sons and daughter in their luxury hotel room. As he stretches, the robe opens and Timothy is exposed in a full-frontal shot.
In a new interview with TV Insider, Sam Nivola and Sarah Catherine Hook, who play son Lochlan and daughter Piper, have spoken about the experience of shooting the scene.
“That wasn’t his real penis,” said Nivola.
“It was a prosthetic,” added Hook. “It was really funny. He was very excited to do it. I think he took pride in the prosthetic. He gave that guy a nice shot.”
Nivola went on to say: “He’s like, ‘It’s my fake dick scene today!’”
Isaacs himself has commented on the scene in an interview with Decider. Referring to series writer Mike White, he said: “Look, he’s trying to right the balance of how many naked women I’ve seen growing up on every television show and film. Nudity is the thing. He uses it sometimes for comedy, sometimes for sex, sometimes the manipulation. It’s a good TV moment.”
Elsewhere, he joked to Entertainment Weekly: “Yeah, it is now in my contract for every show I do, so we’ll see. It’ll get easier, hopefully.”
Fans on social media reacted to the scene, with one writing they “didn’t expect White Lotus to show Lucius Malfoy’s wand tonight, but here we are.” Another made reference to Isaacs’s Harry Potter character, quipping: “I was not ready for Lucius Malfoy’s slytherin to slip out.”
The current season of The White Lotus takes place in Thailand, while the show has been renewed for a fourth season, set to take place in a yet-to-be-revealed location.
