Jenna Ortega is a big fan of Death Grips.
So much so, that when asked ‘what’s in her bag’ by Vogue, the first thing she pulled out was a Death Grips hat — though she confessed that it “probably needs a wash.” Speaking on the hat (which she notes was a collaboration with the fashion brand Praying) and her love of the experimental hip-hop duo, the Wednesday star said, “I love Death Grips. We thought that they broke up and they didn’t. I think they’re still going.” She’s right; back in April, Death Grips confirmed that they were an active band and hadn’t broken up, though they had parted ways with longtime member Andy Morin.
Ortega continued, recounting a time she saw the group play one of their signature high-energy shows. ” I did see them in London. I think I was actually shooting for Dior. And I called my castmate who was playing my love interest at the time and I was trying to get to know him. I took him to a Death Grips show, but I don’t think he listened to Death Grips so he was really confused by all the headbanging. It was the sweatiest venue I’ve ever been in in my life. Everyone was sleek.”
Elsewhere in the video, Ortega pulls out a harmonica that she keeps in her bag, plus various items she’s stolen from costume fittings, smelling salts, toothpicks, and more random objects. Watch the video below.
Ortega reprised her breakout role as Wednesday Addams in Season 2 of Wednesday this month, with the first part airing on August 6th; Part 2 will arrive on Netflix on September 3rd. As for Death Grips, the group has remained quiet since dispelling the rumors of their breakup in April. They haven’t released a new album since 2018’s Year of the Snitch.
