Kelly Osbourne has put Irish wrestler Becky Lynch on blast for making a crass joke about the late Ozzy Osbourne and his home city of Birmingham, England, which hosted the latest edition of WWE’s Monday Night Raw on August 25th.
Lynch made the remarks on Raw while she was exchanging words in the ring with Nikki Bella, who was making a challenge for Lynch’s title belt. Bella was ready to throw down right there, but Lynch wasn’t ready to fight just yet, as she made comments about England oppressing the Irish for “800 years.”
“You can have your match,” Lynch said, “but in Paris at [‘The Clash in Paris’]. Because I am not wrestling in Birmingham. The only good thing that came out of here died a month ago.”
The crowd at the Bp pulse Live arena let out an audible gasp before Lynch added, “But in fairness to Ozzy Osbourne, he had the good sense to move to L.A., a proper city. Because if I lived in Birmingham, I’d die too.”
Lynch and Bella then engaged in a brief skirmish before the former retreated with her belt to a chorus of boos.
Needless to say, Lynch didn’t make many fans in Birmingham, with Kelly Osbourne leading the backlash via an Instagram story in which she called the wrestler a “disrespectful dirtbag.”
“Birmingham would not piss on you if you were on fire. #birminghamforever,” Kelly wrote. “Shame on the @wwe for allowing such things to be said about my father and his home!!!!”
Lynch’s joke, in character or not, came a bit too soon, considering that Ozzy passed away on July 22nd and that Raw was being hosted in his hometown of Birmingham. The city and millions of metal fans worldwide mourned the metal icon late last month when a procession was held in Birmingham prior to a private funeral service.
