Kim Gordon’s 2015 memoir is being reissued for its 10th anniversary. The new edition of Girl in a Band will be released by Dey Street Books on September 9th (pre-order here).
The 10th anniversary edition of Girl in a Band has been updated and expanded with a new chapter centering on Gordon’s solo career and grief over the death of her brother Keller. It also includes a new foreword by author Rachel Kushner.
Originally released in 2015, Girl in a Band was an instant hit and became a New York Times bestseller. It also got attention for Gordon’s transparent and blunt critiques of artists like Lana Del Rey, Courtney Love, and The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan.
“Girl in a Band is not just a memoir; it’s a vivid exploration of New York’s transformative music scene in the late 1980s and ’90s, a period that launched Sonic Youth and paved the way for a generation of women who looked to Kim Gordon for inspiration and strength,” reads a press release.
In other literary news, the former Sonic Youth frontwoman released the photo book No Icon in 2020 via Rizzoli. Gordon subsequently edited the 2022 collection This Woman’s Work: Essays on Music alongside Sinéad Gleeson.
Last year, Gordon released her second solo album, The Collective, featuring former Song of the Week pick “BYE BYE.”
