Kim Gordon Updates Her Knicks Jersey In Late-Night TV Callback

When Sonic Youth played David Letterman's Late Show in 1994, a barefoot and pregnant Kim Gordon led the band through "Bull In The Heather" wearing the jersey of New York Knicks star John Starks. Gordon, now based in Los Angeles, was back in her longtime home base of New York this past Saturday — coincidentally, the 20th anniversary of Sonic Youth's Rather Ripped — when the Knicks won their first NBA championship in 53 years. "so happy to be in NYC!" she posted on Instagram along with footage of New Yorkers in the streets joyously singing "Empire State Of Mind."

Gordon kept the celebration going Wednesday night in her appearance on The Tonight Show. She was there to perform "Play Me," the title track from her new solo album, and she took the occasion to call back to that '94 Letterman performance. This time she wore newly minted Knicks legend Jalen Brunson, the NBA Finals MVP, who capped off a remarkable playoff run by scoring 45 of his team's 94 points in their series-clinching Game 5 win.

Gordon's following up her Fallon appearance by playing a pop-up show at 300-capacity Night Club 101 in the East Village tonight. Watch her play "Play Me" below.
