Kohti Tuhoa Announce New Album Paratiisi: Hear “Valmistaudu Sotaan”

There's nothing quite like the feeling of hearing a raging, seething, ass-kicking punk song in a language that you don't speak — not knowing exactly what they're saying but fully getting it anyway. Helsinki's Kohti Tuhoa have given me that feeling over and over again. The band works within the rich tradition of Finnish D-beat, and they only sing in their native language, but I have never once been confused by one of their records because "fuck these motherfucking oppressors" is a universal sentiment. (The name Kohti Tuhoa is Finnish for "towards destruction," if that helps situate them for you.)Kohti Tuhoa have been making beast-ass records ever since 2014, and now they've announced plans to follow the sick 2021 EP Väkivaltaa with Paratiisi, their fourth full-length and their first since 2019's Ihmisen Kasvot. Paratiisi is Finnish for Paradise — not, as I assumed, Parasite — and it apparently includes a free jazz experiment, which should be fun. But there's nothing experimental about lead single "Valmistaudu Sotaan" (Finnish for "Prepare For War"). It's a two-minute fists-up anthem that has me ready to light stuff on fire.
