Richard Donner’s classic 1987 action movie Lethal Weapon will be available in 4K Ultra HD for the first time ever on June 24th. Pre-orders are ongoing.

The Mel Gibson and Danny Glover-led film will be available for purchase digitally, on 4K UHD Blu-ray disc, and in a limited Steelbook edition.

Arriving in 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR), the release includes both the 1987 theatrical version of the movie and the 2000 Director’s Cut, which features an additional seven minutes of footage. It also comes with two new featurettes: A Legacy of Inspiration: Remembering Richard Donner and I’m Too Old for This…

Directed by the late Donner from a screenplay written by Shane Black, Lethal Weapon starred Gibson as Detective Martin Riggs and Glover as Detective Roger Murtaugh. Gary Busey, Mitchell Ryan, Tom Atkins, Darlene Love, and Traci Wolfe round out the cast.

In the film, Gibson plays an “increasingly unstable” Los Angeles policeman grieving the recent loss of his wife. He is reluctantly paired with Glover’s character, a “by-the-book homicide detective with an impeccable record and a loving family.” Together, they investigate a suicide case that uncovers an international crime ring.

Lethal Weapon spawned three sequels and a television spinoff that aired for three seasons from 2016 to 2019. There’s been talk of a fifth film since the mid-2000s, with Donner having confirmed he would direct and produce it prior to his death in 2021.

In June 2024, Gibson confirmed Lethal Weapon 5 was still in development and that he would be directing the project. However, during an appearance at a fan convention this past September, he admitted to having trouble with getting it made.
