Noah Weiland has released a cover of ‘Sex Type Thing’, the song by his father Scott’s band Stone Temple Pilots – check it out below.
The song was the alt-rock band’s debut single in 1993 and was included on their debut album ‘Core’ the previous year.
Now, Noah has shared his intimate, stripped-back acoustic version of the track, which he has dedicated to his father, who passed away in 2015 due to an accidental overdose.
Watch the eccentric video for the track below, which sees Noah make his way through a city accompanied by a Chucky doll that seems to come to represent Scott. The video features subtitles that implore us to seize our time on Earth, concluding: “I wish I could dream about your forever. But it’s ok…because for now I will carry on your legacy”.
Sharing the track on Instagram, Noah said he “filmed this about a dream I had long ago about seeing my father again”. He added: “It’s hard for me to stay in the moment sometimes, but I try.”
It is Noah’s first release of 2025 and it follows on from a string of singles last year that included ‘Good Riddance & Goodbye’, ‘Yesterday’ and ‘2 Nights’. His debut album ‘Call Jesus’ is set to arrive later in 2025, the follow-up to his EP ‘Last Kiss Before Detox’.
He has also reworked unreleased vocal tracks from his father on the track ‘Time Will Tell’, which he released last year after an apparent blackmail attempt. As he explained at the time, an unknown individual had been able to secure access to Scott’s vocals and had threatened to leak them online unless Noah handed over $2,000.
Noah has also refuted the claim that he is a “trust fund baby”. “I always get annoyed when people say that type of stuff,” he said. “My dad was millions in debt when he died. My mom has always worked a normal job. And truthfully, even if my dad’s estate ever does get out of debt, I don’t even want that money. I want to make a career out of myself as much as possible.”
