The queens of alternative pop one by one are dropping their brand new music and now it's Lorde's turn.The singer-songwriter has returned with "What Was That" a hypnotic, synth-pop number that harkens back to her Melodrama era.Lorde took her time on releasing this one since it's been quite some time after the not so succesfull "Solar Power" album.The upbeat sound of "What Was That" suits her better it's closer to a Charli XCX sound and in my opinion this single it is destined to be a hit all summer long.She needed that she chose wisely and this is what modern pop sounds like in 2025.
