Marianne Faithfull Posthumous EP Burning Moonlight to Arrive on June 6th

Following her passing on January 30th this year, Decca Records has announced a posthumous Marianne Faithfull EP titled, Burning Moonlight, arriving on June 6th.

The EP is comprised of four new songs, all of which were inspired by Faithfull’s early-career output in the mid-1960s. The release was originally set to be included as a part of Record Store Day 2025 in February, but was postponed after her death. Now, at the request of her family, Burning Moonlight will arrive as an extension and celebration of Faithfull’s catalogue.

“As we grieve the loss of Marianne, we are pleased to announce the release of these songs which she worked on during the year before her death,” said her son, Nicholas Dunbar, in a press release. “Marianne lived to create and perform music – it was her driving force and she never stopped. Right up until the end she was looking forward to this release which now completes and celebrates her remarkable artistic career.”

“Burning Moonlight,” the EP’s title track, is out today as the first offering from the new release. Led by an acoustic guitar and Faithfull’s rich, aching vocals, the song is a downtempo message of resilience that surveys her entire career. “Burning moonlight to survive/ Walking in fire is my life,” she sings at the end of the chorus, reflecting on her journey. “It’s a good time to look back,” she said after completing the project. “It helps me to remember all the things I’ve done. I can’t say I’m a particularly nostalgic person, but I am enjoying this period of reflection.” Stream “Burning Moonlight” below.

Before crafting the four songs on Burning Moonlight, her last effort was 2021 a spoken-word album titled She Walks in Beauty. Faithfull passed away peacefully in her home on January 30th; several musicians offered dedications to the English singer, including Metallica, who enlisted her vocals on their 1997 ReLoad album.
