London indie trio Mary In The Junkyard made some noise with their 2024 EP This Old House, and now they're getting ready to release Role Model Hermit, the full-length debut that they recorded with producer Oli Bayston. We already posted the grand, dramatic lead single "Crash Landing," and now Mary In The Junkyard follow it with the considerably quiet new single "Candelabra."
Mary In The Junkyard bandleader Clari Freeman-Taylor sings and plays guitar, cello, viola, and violin on Role Model Hermit, but she doesn't put all those skills to work on the relatively sparse and acoustic "Candelabra." It's a lovelorn lament that she wrote years ago. In a press release, Freeman-Taylor says, "It has all of my teenage angst written into it." I believe her! Sample lyrics: "Thought of you while staring at the candelabra/ Almost felt your fingers in my hair/ One of your eyes is green, but the other is darker/ Let me hold you still so I can stare." That is teenage music in the best way.
Along with the studio version of "Candelabra," Mary In The Junkyard have shared a video of Clari Freeman-Taylor playing the song solo-acoustic while walking along the banks of the Thames. Check out both below.
Role Model Hermit is out 7/3 on AMF.
