MASTIFF Streams Crushing New Single "A Story Behind Every Light"

Mastiff have returned with their most punishing work to date, unleashing their new single "A Story Behind Every Light" today. The track serves as the lead offering from their forthcoming EP For All The Dead Dreams, which arrives October 24 via Church Road Records.

Speaking on why the song was chosen to spearhead the campaign, the band explained: "We picked 'A Story Behind Every Light' as the lead single because it pretty unanimously became our favourite track, not just on this EP but in the band's entire catalogue.

"It does some pretty heavy lifting thematically, as the song deals with Jim's very real suicidal ideations in the aftermath of losing his son, but being pulled back from the brink by his daughter. Sonically we were channelling the kind of driving death metal that bands like Gatecreeper do so well, but being us we also threw a couple of skronky meat-head breakdowns in there too."

Whether spreading plagues, reducing the earth to ash, or staring directly into the abyss, Kingston Upon Hull's premier misery merchants continue to cement their reputation as one of the UK's most unforgiving exports. More than a decade into their reign of sonic misery, Mastiff have carved out a place in extreme music with their filthy blend of hardcore, sludge, and sheer spite.

On stage, Mastiff have proven themselves a formidable force, appearing at heavyweight festivals such as Bloodstock, Damnation, Incineration and DesertFest, while sharing bills with the likes of Avatar, Conan, Palm Reader, Black Tongue, Cult Leader, Iron Monkey, Calligram and Raging Speedhorn.

Their recorded output has carried the same venom, with two critically acclaimed albums on MNRK Heavy earning widespread attention. Their track "Acid Breather" even found its way into the multi-million – selling Cyberpunk 2077 video game and its Netflix anime spin-off, expanding their reach far beyond the underground.

With For All The Dead Dreams, Mastiff double down on their unrelenting approach. Recorded and mixed by Joe Clayton at Nø Studio and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, the five-song EP is a concentrated blast of violence and despair. If 2021's Deprecipice was already among the most abrasive releases of its year, this new chapter somehow raises the bar, sounding like Nails, Harm's Way, and Gatecreeper tossed into a cement mixer and poured directly into your skull.

A Story Behind Every Light is streaming now, offering the first glimpse of Mastiff's latest descent into unflinching brutality.
