Talking about the track, which is accompanied by a video directed by Alexander Brown, Maïlé Doremus-Cook said: "This track has a few meanings to me. It explores the state of being both asleep and awake simultaneously. It’s like someone sleepwalking down the street while trapped in a dream, subconsciously hoping they don’t fall and wake up. I also think it’s about falling in love or rather, trying to avoid it."
"Praying I Don’t Fall" follows previously released singles, "Eyes Talk", "Space Jumps" and "Loose Lines".
"The album's title, ‘Unsinking The Cypress’, was inspired by the symbolism of cypress trees in Greek mythology, where they are associated with the underworld. The cypress also represents longevity and resilience. I was drawn to these themes as I was navigating a particularly challenging period in my life, marked by relationship struggles, loss, and trauma. I felt like I was living in my own personal underworld, grappling to find my identity," Memory of Jane explains.
"The word "unsinking," though not a dictionary term, resonated with me as a metaphor for emerging from darkness when everything seems to be pushing you under. Interestingly, there is a type of cypress tree known as the "bald cypress," which can grow in water, further embodying the strength and perseverance I wanted to convey through this album."
