Metallica wrapped up their three-year “M72 World Tour” on Sunday, July 5th, in London. With the date falling on the one-year anniversary of the historic “Back to the Beginning” concert, the band paid tribute to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne during the show.
The metal legends kicked off the “M72 World Tour” in April 2023, playing multiple legs around the world and grossing roughly $600 million along the way.
At Sunday’s show, bassist Robert Trujillo and Kirk Hammett performed their “doodle” in which they pay tribute to one or more acts local to the venue. In this case, they performed a medley of Black Sabbath’s “Electric Funeral“ and Sex Pistols’ “Holidays in the Sun.”
Prior to launching into the “doodle,” Trujillo mentioned that the “Back to the Beginning” concert took place exactly a year ago, and held up a fan poster that read “Do It For Ozzy!”
The Back to the Beginning concert, which took place in Birmingham, England, featured the final performances of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. Sadly, Ozzy passed away 17 days later on July 22nd, 2025.
